Best of the MRA Blog 2013

Welcome to the New Year! Year 2014, that is.

2013 has been quite eventful for the Mountain Rider’s Alliance, here are some highlights:

We have begun exploring a partnership with the Kenai Borough in Alaska. The partnership will create the potential for some awesome outdoor recreation such as mountain biking, zip lines, and Nordic skiing in addition to the restoration of Manitoba Mountain for downhill skiing.

MRA was hired to operate  Mt. Abram in Maine . We are extremely excited to be officially managing our first ski area and have begun implementing our core values of how a community focused Mountain Playground should be operated. The season is off to a great start and there is a palpable positive vibe and renewed vigor amongst Mt Abram’s guests.

Finally, we were very proud to see Outside Magazine feature our CEO Jamie Schectman as someone who is shaping the future of skiing. Alongside industry icons such as Klaus Obermeyer and Glen Plake, Jamie makes his predictions for skiing in 25 years.

2014 is shaping up to be a big year in winter sports. The 2014 Winter Olympic games will be held in Sochi. Also, renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power are beginning to become mainstream. This will undoubtedly affect how ski resorts operate as traditional energy costs continue to rise.

We hope that your ski season is off to a great start, and your deepest powder dreams come true this year!

What are your resolutions, goals, or intentions for 2014?
